Five Traders Abducted in Bandit Attack on Plateau Market

Five traders have been abducted following a bandits’ attack on the Dogon Ruwa market in Bashar district of Wase Local Government Area, Plateau State. The incident occurred on Monday morning during the weekly market, drawing in large crowds from neighbouring communities.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers arrived on motorcycles in large numbers and began shooting indiscriminately, forcing traders and residents to flee. Amid the chaos, five shop owners were seized and taken away, while several shops and business centres were burgled and looted. Items stolen include foodstuffs, beverages, and medicines.

One of the affected traders, Abdullahi Isma’il, said the attackers appeared to have planned the assault to coincide with market day.

Governor Caleb Muftwang has condemned the escalating violence, describing it as genocidal and alleging that the attackers are attempting to seize land, with some reportedly speaking foreign languages.
