Flying Eagles Edge Tunisia in Under-20 AFCON Opener

The Flying Eagles began their 2025 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Tunisia at the June 30 Stadium in Cairo.

Auwal Ibrahim’s composed finish in the 38th minute proved decisive, capping off a flowing move sparked by captain Daniel Bameyi’s long ball. Fullback Odinaka controlled on the left, picked his moment, and fed Ibrahim, who slipped past the Tunisian backline before slotting home with aplomb.

The early exchanges were dominated by the Junior Carthage Eagles, who pressed aggressively but failed to convert their chances. Nigeria weathered the storm and grew into the contest, with coach Aliyu Zubairu’s side showing greater discipline after the break.

Despite failing to extend their lead, the Flying Eagles defended resolutely in the closing stages. Goalkeeper Ebenezer Harcourt made two key stops late on to preserve the lead and secure a crucial three points in Group B.
