Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has inaugurated the Tapa Commercial High Court, a specialised courthouse on Lagos Island designed to fast-track the resolution of business-related disputes.
Speaking at the launch on Tuesday, Governor Sanwo-Olu described the court as a “monument of fairness, progress and prosperity,” adding that it addresses long-standing concerns over delays in commercial litigation.

The idea for the court was first proposed by retired Chief Judge Ayotunde Phillips. The new facility houses 10 fully equipped courtrooms and will be staffed by judges with expertise in commercial law, with a goal of resolving cases within six to nine months.
The Chief Judge of Lagos, Justice Kazeem Alogba, and the Attorney General, Lawal Pedro, welcomed the development as a major boost for justice and economic growth. Governor Sanwo-Olu also commended the over 450 lawyers in the Ministry of Justice for their contribution to the project.
