Kaduna sets up panel, approves ₦300m for KASU lecturers

The Kaduna State Government has set up a committee to negotiate with striking university lecturers and approved a one-off payment to ease tensions.

A statement from the Secretary to the State Government, AbdulKadir Mu’azu Meyere, says Governor Uba Sani has approved ₦300 million as a one-off Earned Academic Allowance payment as part of efforts to clear a backlog of more than ₦800 million in entitlements dating back to 2016.

The government also set up a nine-member Negotiation Committee, chaired by the Commissioner of Education, Professor Abubakar Sani Sambo, to review the demands of the university’s ASUU chapter and other staff unions. Members include the university’s Vice Chancellor and Pro-Chancellor, along with other commissioners and officials.

The union had earlier issued a strike warning to the state government and university administration over staff welfare and failure to implement a 2025 Federal Government–Academic Staff Union of Universities agreement.
