Authorities in Lagos have urged residents to avoid poorly maintained vehicles, warning that such transport options pose a grave danger to public safety.
The advisory, issued by the Director of the Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS), Akin-George Fashola, follows a clampdown on several unroadworthy vehicles recently impounded across the state. A statement released through the Ministry of Transportation described many of the seized vehicles as “ticking time bombs,” citing worn-out tyres, faulty brakes, and corroded chassis among the most common defects.

Officials say a worrying number of these vehicles operate under the cover of darkness, placing unsuspecting commuters at heightened risk.
Residents have been encouraged to remain vigilant and report dangerous vehicles via official VIS channels, including email and dedicated hotlines.
The state government insists that the safety of commuters remains paramount as it continues enforcement efforts across key transport corridors.
