The Nigerian presidency has dismissed suggestions of wrongdoing following a United States court ruling compelling federal agencies to release records linked to President Bola Tinubu’s alleged involvement in a decades-old drug investigation.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga said the ruling did not imply criminal liability and insisted the case had long been in the public domain, with documents from the FBI and DEA circulating for over 30 years.

The order, handed down by Judge Beryl Howell of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, followed a Freedom of Information Act suit filed by American activist Aaron Greenspan.
Mr Greenspan had sought access to investigative material concerning a 1990s heroin ring in Chicago, naming four individuals including President Tinubu.
The FBI and DEA have been directed to release relevant records, though the extent of their contents remains uncertain.
