Mutfwang: Nigeria’s Insecurity an Elite-Created Crisis

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has blamed Nigeria’s lingering insecurity on the country’s elite, accusing them of fuelling division and conflict for political and personal gain.

Speaking in Jos at a dialogue on community policing, Governor Mutfwang said the security crisis is not grassroots-driven but engineered by those with influence and access to power.

He argued that when elites stoke communal hatred or spread disinformation, instability follows—but if they choose to lead decisively, peace can be restored.

The governor stressed that responsible leadership and honest national dialogue are essential to ending violence, particularly in states like Plateau, where identity politics have deepened divisions.

He reaffirmed his commitment to dismantling ethnic and religious barriers and restoring peace to the region.

Governor Mutfwang also claimed he had done more than any governor since 1999 to promote unity and reconciliation in the state.
