The Nigeria Football Federation has formally apologised to President Tinubu and Nigerians after the Super Falcons failed to qualify directly for the 2027 World Cup, following Sunday’s shock quarter-final exit at the hands of Cameroon at WAFCON. NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau said the federation — quote — “shares the disappointment” but is not giving up.
Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie echoed that resolve, posting on Instagram: “One more huddle to keep the dream alive.”
Nigeria now face South Africa’s Banyana Banyana in a decisive play-off on Thursday. A loss would mean missing the FIFA Women’s World Cup for the first time since the tournament began in 1991.
