The Defence Headquarters says reports suggesting the existence of a permanent terrorist base in Nigeria’s south-west are inaccurate, describing recent attacks in Oyo State as isolated criminal incidents.
In a statement on Wednesday, Defence spokesperson Michael Onoja said the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, has expressed condolences to the families of victims, the government and people of Oyo State over the abduction of pupils and teachers.
The military said the armed forces are deploying full operational capacity to secure the safe release of the abducted victims and urged Nigerians to remain calm and support ongoing security operations.

It added that troops are conducting search-and-rescue operations in forests across the area, in coordination with other security agencies and local vigilantes, while rejecting claims that terrorists have established structured bases in the region.
