The immediate past Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, has defected to the Peoples Democratic Party and secured its governorship ticket for Gombe State ahead of the 2027 elections. He emerged on Tuesday through a voice affirmation during the party’s primary held in Gombe.
Pantami was declared the sole aspirant by the Chairman of the PDP Electoral Panel, Hon. Gregory Yenlong, following the exercise. The method of selection confirmed him as the party’s flagbearer for the governorship race.
He will now face Jamilu Gwamna, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Gombe State. Pantami had earlier opposed the APC process that produced Gwamna as the consensus candidate and withdrew from its primary, citing concerns over transparency.

Speaking after his emergence, Pantami said he entered the race to serve the people of the state. He pledged to govern with fairness and justice if elected in 2027.
