The Presidency says the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council does not exist under the Tinubu administration. In a statement signed by Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the State House said the matter came to its attention after complaints from the Nigerian Investment Promotion Council about overlapping duties, prompting security agencies to begin investigating the fake council’s purported director general, Adeyemi Adeniyi Matthew.
The Presidency says police found that the suspect allegedly forged appointment documents and falsely presented himself as the head of a federal government agency. It also alleges that he sought official recognition for the fictitious body, including a diplomatic note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to support visa processing for himself and others.
According to the State House, Adeyemi was arrested in Abuja on October 27, 2025, and an eight-count charge was later filed against him and two alleged accomplices. The case is now before the court, with a hearing scheduled for July 27.
