President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a new campus of the Nigeria Police Academy in Erinja, Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State. The President also approved a take-off grant of fifteen billion naira to support the development of the institution.
The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, says the approval is in line with the Nigeria Police Academy Establishment Act of 2021.
He explains that the move is part of efforts to expand the academy currently located in Wudil, Kano State, into multiple campuses nationwide. Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, joined the Minister of Police Affairs, the Inspector General of Police and the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission at a consultative meeting that recommended Erinja as the site. The meeting reviewed student intake capacity, funding considerations, academic standards and the manpower needs of the Nigeria Police Force.

Funding for the project will be sourced from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund allocation for 2026. The Federal Government says the new campus will provide infrastructure, academic facilities, student accommodation and training equipment, while strengthening policing education, institutional governance and national security.
