President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a salary increase of between 30 and 80 per cent for about 250,000 personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces to improve troop welfare and strengthen national security.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed in a statement signed Tuesday that the increase will take effect from September 1, 2026,
Junior personnel from Private to Staff Sergeant will receive an 80 per cent increase, officers from Warrant Officer to Colonel will get 50 per cent, while Brigadier Generals and above will receive a 30 per cent rise. The annual military wage bill will increase from ₦660 billion to ₦924 billion.
Onanuga said the review reflects the administration’s commitment to boosting morale, improving operational effectiveness and supporting troops confronting insecurity across the country.
