President Bola Tinubu has launched the Labour, Employment and Empowerment Programme—LEEP—with a target of creating 2.5 million jobs within two years.
Speaking at the launch in Abuja, Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented the President, said the initiative is a strategic response to unemployment and global workplace disruptions. He urged Nigerian youths to acquire skills and stay committed to building the country.

The programme is anchored by the Ministry of Labour and Employment and features six pillars, including a national job portal, digital academy, and vocational training hubs. Labour Minister Muhammad Dingyadi said LEEP will equip young Nigerians with skills for self-employment and entrepreneurship.
The Minister of State for labour and employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, described LEEP as a national shift aimed at sustainable employment and economic diversification.
Welcoming the initiative, the Nigeria Labour Congress and the International Labour Organization called for all jobs created to meet the national minimum wage and avoid casualisation. The President of the NLC, Joe Ajaero, cautioned against casual jobs and called for meaningful engagement with workers in policy design.
