Former Ogun State governorship candidate under the PDP, Segun Showunmi, says if he decides to support President Bola Tinubu in 2027, he will leave the PDP and join the ruling party.
In an interview monitored by RadioNow’s news desk, Showunmi stressed that he does not support the idea of remaining in one party while working for another.

He expressed frustration with the state of the PDP, saying there’s a strong possibility he’ll leave, based on what’s happening in his environment, state, and among his people.
Showunmi said he delayed leaving the PDP because he hoped someone would show leadership potential, not just ambition.
Responding to criticism from activist Omoyele Sowore, he dismissed it as “cheeky nonsense,” saying they don’t need to agree to be brothers.
On Peter Obi, Showunmi expressed disappointment, saying he had hoped Obi would lead a serious challenge to the status quo. But he warned that time is running out for Obi to decide on his political direction.
Showunmi said his decisions are driven by the need for proper succession planning and a more stable democracy.
