Senate Raises Customs 2025 Revenue Target to ₦10 Trillion

The Senate has increased the Nigeria Customs Service’s 2025 revenue target to ₦10 trillion, following the agency’s strong performance this year.

During a budget defence session, Senate Committee Chair on Customs, Senator Isah Jibrin, praised the agency for surpassing its 2024 revenue target of ₦5 trillion by over a trillion naira.

The committee approved both the revised revenue target and the NCS’s ₦1.1 trillion expenditure plan, which will now proceed to plenary when lawmakers resume from the Sallah break on June 24.

While applauding the Service’s financial strides, Senator Jibrin urged it to do more in curbing smuggling and the trafficking of illicit drugs—warning that drugs are fuelling insecurity across the country.

He also highlighted the economic impact of unchecked imports, calling on Customs to support local production as a means to boost jobs, conserve foreign exchange, and ease pressure on the naira.
