Ships attacked in Hormuz despite extended Iran ceasefire

At least two container ships have come under attack in the Strait of Hormuz, according to maritime agencies, despite an extended ceasefire announced by United States President Donald Trump. The incidents were reported on Wednesday near the strategic waterway at the entrance to the Gulf.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations said one vessel was fired upon by an Iranian Revolutionary Guards boat northeast of Oman, damaging the bridge but causing no casualties. A second ship was also reportedly targeted and forced to stop near the Iranian coast.

The attacks come as President Trump extended a temporary ceasefire with Iran to allow more time for negotiations, following mediation efforts involving Pakistan. However, both sides have accused each other of violating the truce, while the United States continues a blockade of Iranian ports.
