Nigeria’s Super Falcons coach, Justin Madugu, says the team’s shock 3-2 defeat to WAFCON debutants Malawi should serve as a wake-up call. Nigeria, the defending champions and 10-time winners of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, surrendered a lead in their Group C opener in Rabat on Tuesday.
Malawi scored through Tabitha Chawinga and a brace from Temwa Chawinga, while Nigeria’s goals came from Rasheedat Ajibade and Uchenna Kanu.
Madugu said criticism of his team selection and tactical decisions was inevitable after the defeat, adding that the players and technical crew must accept responsibility and correct their mistakes.
The result puts pressure on Nigeria ahead of their next Group C fixture against Zambia.
