The African Continental Free Trade Area, AfCFTA, has selected AfriTrade CMP Limited, a subsidiary of Nigerian firm Bergmans Security Consultant and Supplies, for a 20-year, multi-billion-dollar project to modernise and connect customs systems across Africa, reportedly worth over 3 billion dollars.
President Bola Tinubu praised the deal, calling it proof that Nigerian-built solutions can serve the wider continent.
The selected technology is based on B’Odogwu, Nigeria’s own customs management system launched in 2024, which AfCFTA’s Secretary-General Wamkele Mene called a model for Africa after visiting Customs headquarters in Abuja.
Tinubu says the deal reflects his government’s “Nigeria First” policy to back homegrown businesses and make them highly competitive across the continent and globally.
Since the AfCFTA launched in 2021, intra-Africa trade has grown, rising by 12.5 percent from 2023 to $220 billion in 2024.
