Troops Foil Boko Haram Attack on Damboa Base, Kill 16 insurgents

Sixteen Boko Haram fighters have been killed during an attempted attack on a military base near Sambisa Forest in Borno State.

The terrorists tried to infiltrate the 25 Taskforce Brigade headquarters in Damboa around 1am on Friday but were repelled after two hours of sustained combat by troops and members of the civilian joint task force.

Confirming the development, Captain Reuben Kovangiya, spokesperson of Operations Hadin Kai, said the success was aided by air support from the joint task force. Several terrorists escaped with injuries, while weapons and IED-making materials were recovered.

In a related operation near Rann in Kala Balge Local Government Area, troops neutralised six more insurgents during an attempted food hijack. Meanwhile, an ambush near Komala along the Maiduguri-Damboa Road led to the recovery of motorcycles and IED components.
