South African singer Tyla has removed Lagos from the schedule of her A*Pop World Tour, days after her planned December 22 concert in Nigeria sparked boycott calls. The Grammy-winning artist initially listed Lagos among the African stops on her newly announced tour, alongside Cape Town and Johannesburg. The Lagos date has since disappeared from the published itinerary.
The change comes amid calls by some Nigerians to boycott the concert over xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa. Tyla and her representatives have not publicly confirmed that the boycott campaign prompted the removal of the Lagos date.
The A*Pop World Tour is scheduled to begin in Europe in October, with North American dates following in November before the African leg in December and January.
