US Eases Visa Bond Rules for World Cup Fans

US to Partially Suspend Visa Issuance to Nigerians from January 2026

The United States has announced a temporary relaxation of visa bond requirements for certain visitors attending the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The State Department said the waiver applies to team members and fans from participating countries who already hold match tickets and are registered under a priority visa system.

Under a migration policy introduced by President Donald Trump, visa applicants from 50 developing countries have been required to pay refundable bonds ranging from 5,000 to 15,000 dollars before entering the US.

Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs, Mora Namdar, said the move was aimed at balancing national security with legitimate travel for the tournament. FIFA also welcomed the decision, describing it as part of ongoing cooperation with the US government to support the competition.
