Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu says discussions are ongoing to extend the Red Line rail into neighbouring Ogun State. He says the plan is part of efforts to reduce congestion and improve transport connectivity within the Lagos–Ogun corridor.
The governor made the disclosure through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile. He says the extension will support Lagos’ integrated transport system, which combines rail, road and water transport.
Sanwo-Olu says the Red Line is designed as a high-capacity rail corridor that can move up to 500,000 passengers daily when fully operational. He adds that the line currently runs from Agbado to Oyingbo, with further expansion planned towards Marina to connect with the Blue Line.

He says the broader transport plan also includes additional rail infrastructure and integration with other systems, such as water transport. The Red Line is part of the Lagos Strategic Transport Master Plan, which provides for six rail lines across the state.
