At least 72 people have reportedly been killed after a military air strike hit Tumfa market in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Sunday.
According to AFP, local residents said the market was crowded at the time of the strike, with some victims described as traders and civilians. Amnesty International claimed the death toll had risen to more than 100, with dozens of injured persons receiving treatment in hospitals.
The rights group accused the military of carrying out the attack without warning and called for an investigation into the incident. It said one affected community buried 80 people in a single mass burial.

However, the Defence Headquarters denied reports of civilian casualties in the Zamfara operation, while also dismissing similar claims linked to a separate Nigerian Air Force strike in Niger State.
