Peter Obi Reaffirms One-Term Presidency Pledge

The Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, says he would serve only one term of four years if elected president of Nigeria. He made the statement in an interview.

Obi said his decision is based on the need for stability, adding that he would not stay in office beyond four years “even with a gun to my head”. He criticised the economic policies of the current administration, including borrowing and rising living costs.

The former Anambra State governor also reiterated his long-standing position on rotational leadership, saying he supports zoning and believes any southern president elected in 2027 should step down in 2031. Obi came third in the 2023 presidential election behind Atiku Abubakar and President Bola Tinubu.
