Suspected armed herdsmen killed at least a dozen people in fresh attacks on Akpachi village and Otukpo-Nobi community in Benue State’s Otukpo Local Government Area over the weekend.
Attackers first struck Akpachi on Friday, killing two farmers, then hit Otukpo-Nobi around 4am Sunday, killing at least 16 more and forcing residents to flee. The violence follows the June 26 killing of Benue’s Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association chairman, Ardo Risku Mohammed, though security agencies haven’t confirmed a link.
Angry youths marched to the Och’Idoma palace with victims’ bodies, blocking major roads and demanding government action. Governor Hyacinth Alia condemned the killings as “barbaric” and ordered security agencies to intensify patrols and pursue the attackers.
