Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza of the Kebbi State High Court has regained his freedom after spending about one week in the enclave of suspected bandits. Family members confirmed his release and thanked Nigerians for their prayers and support during the ordeal.
Justice Bunza was abducted from his residence in Bunza Local Government Area on July 26, prompting a security operation involving police and other agencies. Reports during his captivity said the kidnappers demanded a ₦200 million ransom, although authorities have not confirmed whether any payment was made. The family did not disclose details of his release but expressed relief that he returned safely.
The abduction had drawn widespread condemnation from the legal community, with renewed calls for stronger security measures to protect judicial officers and other public officials across the country.
