The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has given the Federal Government and 20 universities 14 days to resolve parts of a 2025 agreement reached by both parties or face strike action.
The union’s National Executive Council, meeting in Abuja over the weekend, blamed delayed subvention releases and inconsistent implementation across state-owned universities.
Branches at Nasarawa State and Imo State universities have already begun indefinite strikes independently. ASUU president Christopher Piwuna says an emergency meeting will follow in late August or early September to review the situation. The union’s Sokoto Zone branches have issued a similar two-week ultimatum.
