Anthony Joshua survived two first-round knockdowns to knock out Albania’s Kristian Prenga in the second round in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, setting up a long-awaited showdown with fellow Briton Tyson Fury.
Prenga, unbeaten in 20 fights, dropped Joshua just 19 seconds into the bout with a right uppercut before Joshua stormed back, stopping his opponent at 2:43 of round two to improve to 30-4.
It was Joshua’s first fight since surviving a car crash that killed his close friends Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele. “That was spirit. That was Latz and Sina. That was the family,” an emotional Joshua said.
The win clears the path for a Joshua-Fury superfight, expected in November, following Fury’s own win over Mariusz Wach in Thailand a day earlier. Venue and date remain unconfirmed.
