The Federal Government has begun preparations for a nationwide artificial intelligence training programme targeting about 11,700 teachers in Federal Unity Colleges across Nigeria.
The Federal Ministry of Education signed an agreement with ICEDT Consult Limited for the rollout of the AI Teacher Capacity Development Programme. The ministry said the initiative is designed to equip teachers with practical skills to use artificial intelligence in lesson planning, classroom instruction and assessment.
The programme follows a pilot conducted in six Federal Unity Colleges, representing Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. Officials said the pilot demonstrated the potential of AI to improve teaching and learning outcomes.
The ministry said the nationwide rollout will support teachers in adapting to emerging technologies and strengthen digital capacity in schools. The signing ceremony marked the commencement of preparations for full implementation of the programme.
