France and Spain fight for first final spot in 2026 FIFA World Cup

France will face Spain in Dallas tonight in a battle for the first final spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. It will be a fierce battle between the two highest-ranked sides, both unbeaten and both undefeated even in a single half so far in this tournament.

France’s Kylian Mbappé and Spain’s Lamine Yamal are key players to watch and will be meeting for the 11th time in their careers, but for the first time at a World Cup.

Mbappé leads the tournament with eight goals, tied with Messi for the Golden Boot race. Yamal, still just 19, has scored only once so far, but has been Spain’s chief creative outlet, leading all forwards in shot-ending carries.

History favours Spain narrowly — 18 wins in 38 meetings — including a 2024 Euro semifinal win and a 5-4 Nations League thriller last year, but pundits and analysts are split over which team is likely to secure a coveted spot in the final.

The match kicks off at 8:00 PM WAT with the winner advancing to Sunday’s final against Argentina or England.
