French authorities order more evacuations as wildfire spreads

Wildfires sweeping across France and Spain have forced hundreds of thousands of people to leave their homes as firefighters battle major blazes in several areas. In France, authorities ordered more evacuations around the Bordeaux region, where a large wildfire has spread through parts of the Gironde area.

Emergency teams are working to contain the flames, with high temperatures, dry conditions and strong winds making firefighting efforts more difficult. Spain is also battling major fires, including areas near Madrid, as authorities manage evacuations and deploy emergency crews.

Officials say thousands of firefighters are involved in operations across both countries, while residents in affected communities have been moved to temporary shelters. Authorities are monitoring weather conditions as another period of extreme heat is expected in parts of the region.
