Global Inaction Over Gaza Crisis 'Questions Our Humanity', Says Red Cross

The Director-General of the International Committee of the Red Cross has issued an urgent call for governments to intervene in Gaza, warning that the humanitarian situation is reaching a point that “questions the very foundations of our humanity.”

Pierre Kraehenbuehl’s remarks came as Gaza’s last remaining community kitchens shut down on Thursday, cutting off a critical food lifeline for hundreds of thousands. Aid agencies now fear a surge in deaths linked to malnutrition.

Israel’s total blockade, imposed in March, has deepened the crisis following the resumption of military operations against Hamas in the protracted 19-month conflict.

Speaking in Geneva, Mr. Kraehenbuehl, who described the coming days as “absolutely decisive,” urged world powers to prevent the ongoing suffering from continuing unchecked.

While refraining from assigning blame, he called on all parties to act decisively, warning that the Red Cross response itself is now on the verge of collapse.
