Nigeria’s electoral commission has dismissed claims that it has taken sides in the ongoing leadership tussles within the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and the Labour Party, LP.
A statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Mr Rotimi Oyekanmi, late Thursday, described recent media reports suggesting recognition of Julius Abure as LP National Chairman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu as PDP’s National Secretary as “false and misleading.”

According to the commission, names previously listed on its official website reflect past court rulings and do not indicate fresh decisions. INEC emphasised that no formal position has yet been taken regarding either party’s internal disputes.
While acknowledging a recent Supreme Court ruling related to the Labour Party, INEC stated it is still reviewing the judgement and will provide clarity in due course.
The commission reiterated its commitment to legality and neutrality in all party matters.
