Israel’s defence minister, Israel Katz, has ordered the military to block a humanitarian ship carrying climate activist Greta Thunberg from reaching Gaza.
The vessel, named ‘Madleen’, operated by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, left Sicily on 1 June and is carrying a small cargo of aid meant to highlight the humanitarian crisis in the besieged enclave.
The ship is also carrying ten other activists from across Europe and Latin America, including French Member of the European Parliament, MEP, Rima Hassan, who has previously been denied entry into Israel.

Mr Katz said Israeli forces had been instructed to take all necessary measures to stop what he described as a ‘hate flotilla’ from reaching the coast.
Miss Thunberg, rejecting past Israeli claims of antisemitism, said she joined the mission because, in her own words, ‘the moment we stop trying is when we lose our humanity.’
The group said it would not be intimidated, insisting “the world is watching.”
