Nigeria’s Meteorological Agency and the National Council on Climate Change have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to improve climate services, data management, and climate resilience initiatives across the country.
The agreement followed a courtesy visit by NiMet Director-General Charles Anosike to NCCC Secretariat Director-General Tenioye Majekodunmi in Abuja on Tuesday. Anosike highlighted NiMet’s role as custodian of Nigeria’s long-term meteorological records, essential for climate trend analysis, risk assessment, and reliable projections.
He stressed the need for closer collaboration on early warning systems, standardising climate data, and joint research to support evidence-based policy, noting that quality meteorological data is also a prerequisite for accessing international climate finance.
Majekodunmi welcomed the visit and expressed support for closer institutional ties. The partnership builds on earlier NiMet-NCCC cooperation dating back to 2024.
