Nine Chinese Nationals Jailed for Cybercrime in Lagos

A Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, has sentenced nine Chinese nationals to one year in prison for cyber-terrorism and internet fraud.

The convicts were arrested during the EFCC’s “Eagle Flush” sting operation in December 2024, which led to the detention of 792 suspects.

Initially pleading not guilty, the defendants changed their pleas to guilty during proceedings on 5 June.

Justice Daniel Osiagor sentenced each to one year in prison, retroactive to their arrest date, and imposed a fine of ₦1 million per person.

The judge also ordered their deportation upon sentence completion, and forfeiture of seized devices to the Nigerian government.

The EFCC described the convictions as a milestone in Nigeria’s fight against cross-border cybercrime.
