Obi Dismisses VP Deal Rumours, Calls for Unity Against Corruption, Poor Healthcare

Amid rising speculation about a possible opposition coalition ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi says he is not part of any political alliance to unseat President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking in Abuja during a visit to the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Kubwa, Obi made it clear that his focus is on addressing the pressing issues of hunger, poverty, and failing public services in Nigeria—not political ambition.

He also dismissed rumours suggesting he had agreed to run as vice president in the next election, calling such claims politically motivated and selfish.

During the visit, he made a financial donation to a school project in the diocese, noting that churches have been forced to step in where the government has failed to deliver free and quality education.

The former Anambra governor also responded to viral images showing him exchanging pleasantries with President Tinubu at a Vatican event. He explained that he merely observed diplomatic protocol and maintained that his only enemies are corruption and corrupt leadership.
