Three Nigerians have been named among TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in Global Health. They include the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Muhammad Ali Pate; the Director of Nutrition at the Federal Ministry of Health, Dr Ladidi Bako-Aiyegbusi; and geneticist Abasi Ene-Obong, founder of Syndicate Bio.
The 2025 TIME100 Health list celebrates pioneers shaping public health and transforming care systems around the world. TIME praised Dr Pate for driving reforms under Nigeria’s Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative, which has seen over 12 million girls vaccinated against HPV and more than 900 primary healthcare centres upgraded.

Dr Bako-Aiyegbusi was recognised for innovative strategies to tackle malnutrition, particularly through affordable nutrition interventions that reach vulnerable families. Meanwhile, Ene-Obong was honoured for advancing genetic testing across Africa, addressing gaps in global cancer research and promoting access to precision medicine.
Also featured on the list are WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Ghebreyesus, philanthropist Melinda Gates, the Princess of Wales, and Novartis CEO Vas Narasimhan.
