The former governor of Anambra State and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has donated 20 million naira to support the ongoing construction of the Godfrey Okoye University Teaching Hospital in Enugu.
Presenting the cheque on Tuesday, Obi said his continued support for education and healthcare stems from their role as key indicators of the Human Development Index, describing healthcare as the foremost measure of a nation’s development. He noted that he partners with churches due to their impactful work in both sectors

Furthermore, Obi urged the nursing students to be serious with their studies, emphasizing that the country would need their services more.
In his remarks, the Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Most Rev. Dr Callistus Onaga, lauded Obi for looking into the plights of others especially the poor.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Vice Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University, Professor Christian Anieke, recalled Obi’s long standing support and hinted that the university would honour him in due course
Recall that, the Catholic Diocese of Enugu had donated its biggest specialist hospital, Ntasi obi Ndi no N’afufu to Godfrey Okoye University Enugu, to serve as the Teaching Hospital for its College of medicine.
