The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors says it will resume an indefinite nationwide strike from August 10 if its welfare and professional demands remain unresolved.
The decision follows the expiration of a final four-week ultimatum issued to the Federal Government. NARD has demanded the release of the 2026 Medical Residency Training Fund, payment of outstanding salary and allowance arrears, implementation of the revised CONMESS salary structure and stronger protection for healthcare workers.
The association had earlier warned that industrial action would follow if the government failed to address the issues. The decision to strike was taken at NARD’s National Executive Council meeting in Gombe.
The planned action could disrupt services at public hospitals across the country, as resident doctors provide a significant share of frontline and specialist care. Government officials have yet to fully resolve the outstanding issues.
