President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and other anti-graft agencies to sustain the fight against corruption, describing it as a major threat to Nigeria’s progress and security. He made the call on Tuesday while speaking at the commissioning of the EFCC’s new zonal office in Ekiti State.
Tinubu, who was represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, said the EFCC was established to protect the nation’s economy from criminal activity and must be strengthened through modern tools, infrastructure and improved welfare for staff. He said the government remains committed to supporting law enforcement agencies.
The President highlighted recent EFCC operations, including convictions in high-profile corruption cases and the dismantling of a foreign-linked cryptocurrency syndicate in Lagos involving 192 foreigners. He said these outcomes demonstrate that no one is above the law.
