Umahi Gives Contractors 72-Hour Ultimatum Over Abuja–Lokoja Highway

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has issued a 72-hour ultimatum to contractors handling the rehabilitation of the Abuja–Lokoja highway to fully mobilise to site or face possible prosecution by anti-graft agencies. He gave the directive during an inspection visit to the project on Tuesday alongside lawmakers from the Senate and House of Representatives Committees on Works.

Umahi warned that contractors who have received government funds but failed to deliver on their obligations would no longer be tolerated. He said the Federal Government, under President Bola Tinubu, had already approved funding for the project and insisted that contractors must deploy equipment and personnel immediately.

He stated that failure to comply could result in action involving the police and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. The minister also warned that Ministry of Works officials supervising projects would be sanctioned for negligence.

Umahi said the Abuja-bound carriageway is severely damaged and could become impassable if urgent repairs are not carried out, while directing contractors not to remove existing asphalt without approval from the ministry.
