U.S. May Abandon Ukraine-Russia Peace Talks Within Days says Marco Rubio

The United States may pull out of efforts to broker peace between Russia and Ukraine within days if no tangible progress is made. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio issued the warning in Paris after talks with European and Ukrainian leaders, saying the administration won’t drag the process on for weeks or months.

His comments come despite what officials described as an “encouraging reception” to a peace framework proposed by President Trump at the Paris meeting—the first substantial talks involving European powers.

The Kremlin acknowledged some progress but said communication with Washington remains difficult, even as it reiterated a willingness to continue dialogue.

Trump had vowed to end the Ukraine conflict on his first day in office, but that promise was later revised to allow for talks into April or May. A U.S. withdrawal could deal a major blow to the negotiations, as no other nation wields similar influence over both Kyiv and Moscow.
