Six Bandits Killed as Security Repel Attack in Zamfara

A joint security operation has killed six bandits while repelling coordinated attacks on Kanoma Town and Gidan Daji Village in Kanoma District, Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The attack occurred on Tuesday, 9 June 2026.

According to a statement by Police Public Relations Officer DSP Yazid Abubakar, a large number of armed bandits invaded the communities with sophisticated weapons, including RPGs, general-purpose machine guns, anti-aircraft guns, and AK-47 rifles.

He said security operatives comprising police tactical units from Maru Division, military personnel under Operation Fansan Yamma, the Violence Crime Response Unit, and local vigilantes responded to a distress call and engaged the attackers in a gun duel.

The police said six bandits riding on two motorcycles were neutralised, while others fled into nearby forests with suspected gunshot wounds. No casualties were recorded among security personnel or residents, and patrols have been reinforced in the area.
