Usman Alkali Baba, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), says all constables recently recruited into the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) will be deployed to provide security during the 2023 general elections. The IGP who was represented by Ashafa Adekunle, assistant inspector-general of police, zone 8, was speaking at the passing-out parade of the 2022 batch of constables in Kwara State yesterday. According to Mr. Alkali Baba, the additional deployment is to ensure a credible electoral process. The IGP further said in line with community policing goals, the recruits will be posted to their various LGAs to further entrench the policing strategy of the federal government toward addressing community crimes in their respective areas.

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has issued a restraining order against the Department of State Services (DSS), stopping the agency from arresting Godwin Emefiele, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Last week, the DSS filed an application requesting to arrest the CBN Governor over allegations of terrorism.

At yesterday’s court session, M.A. Hassan, the presiding judge, issued the order saying the DSS did not substantiate or provide any material fact of terrorism.

The judge described the agency’s actions as continuous harassment, threat, and intimidation of the CBN Governor over what he further described as trumped-up allegations.
