The Federal Government has adopted Kaduna State’s household-mapping model to identify and track out-of-school children across Nigeria.
Education Minister Tunji Alausa announced the decision after meeting Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, saying the Federal Ministry of Education would work with the National Bureau of Statistics to conduct household mapping across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The exercise is designed to replace broad estimates with verified household-level data showing where out-of-school children live and the factors keeping them away from school. Kaduna’s own mapping exercise identified 187,719 out-of-school children across its 23 local government areas.
The government says the nationwide data will improve education planning, allow resources to be targeted more effectively and support efforts to return children to classrooms.
