The death toll from an Israeli airstrike on a Gaza City shelter has risen to at least 13, with several others feared trapped beneath the rubble. The shelter, a school repurposed to house displaced families, was struck late Tuesday. Civil defence officials say four additional bodies were recovered from nearby homes, but efforts to reach survivors remain hampered by a lack of heavy rescue equipment.
Al Jazeera’s correspondent in Gaza reports that at least six people remain unaccounted for beneath the debris. The attack was one of several across the enclave on Wednesday.

The Palestinian Health Ministry said 39 people were killed and 105 wounded across the territory in the past 24 hours.
The escalation comes amid renewed diplomatic pressure. Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has called on Hamas to release the remaining Israeli captives. Hamas has reiterated its stance: it demands a full Israeli withdrawal and permanent ceasefire in return.
