Five killed in Ogun expressway crash as truck rams passenger bus

Five people have died and seven others were injured in a road traffic collision on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, in Ogun State has confirmed.

The crash occurred shortly after 1:30pm on Wednesday near Car Park C, in the Mowe area of Obafemi Owode Local Government. It involved a yellow Mazda bus and an ash-coloured Howo truck.

Officials said preliminary investigations suggest the truck driver was speeding and lost control, apparently due to brake failure, before crashing into the bus which was negotiating a turn.

FRSC authorities have renewed calls for drivers to remain fully attentive behind the wheel and to observe speed regulations appropriate to their vehicle class.

The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway remains one of Nigeria’s most accident-prone routes, with frequent warnings issued over reckless driving and poor vehicle maintenance.
