Lagos plans specialised vehicle plates for PWDs

The Lagos State Government says it is working towards introducing specialised vehicle number plates for persons with disabilities as part of efforts to promote inclusion and ease mobility.

The initiative was discussed during a meeting between the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs and the Motor Vehicle Administration Agency. The MVAA said it had begun discussions with the Federal Road Safety Corps and would start the necessary administrative processes for the proposed identification system.

LASODA General Manager Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal said the scheme should cover all categories of persons with disabilities, as well as parents of children with disabilities and their caregivers.

The proposal is not entirely new, as Lagos announced plans for similar plates in 2025. The latest development indicates that authorities are continuing efforts towards implementing the scheme across the state.
